Government Degree College, Yerraguntla, Kadapa District, was established in 2008 with unrelenting efforts of the Late Chief Minister of undivided AP, Dr. Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy, It is the first and the most prestigious institution in industrial town of Yerraguntla in the Historical District Kadapa of Andhra Pradesh. As the college is about to complete 13 years of its yeoman service to the noble cause of education, it is appropriate to look back at its beginning and growth and its contribution to the people of Kadapa district in particular and to the country in general over the period of 13 years. The town Yerraguntla of Kadapa had been without a college for many years. When the government of the composite Andhra Pradesh state announced that it was its policy to start one college in every mandal headquarters. The citizens of Yerraguntla promptly co-operated with the Government in making it possible to start the college in 2008 in the locally available Zillaparishad Boys High School Buildings. At present the college has B.A., B.Sc, and B.Com 3-year degree courses with a total strength of 153. With the infrastructure facilities available and with a team of highly qualified and dedicated teachers working industriously under the stupendous leadership of the principal, it is hoped that the college would shine and raise its status. It puts greater responsibility on the staff while offering necessary freedom in academic matters. It is hoped that the college will produce many more eminent personalities in the coming years. The college is approved by the UGC 2(f) in 2016. The College can be reached by train or bus within an hour as it is just forty kilometers away from the Distrit Head Quarters, Kadapa city. It can be reached in 20 minutes by bus from Proddatur town, the Manchester of AP. Kadapa Airport is just 28 KM away. It is on the Mumbai-Chennai Golden Quadrilateral Railway Line.
